The Red Stockings opened the series against the Statesmen with a win. It was done with pitching as Elston D'Amico allowed only 1 run in 5 innings and the bullpen picked up right where he left off. Tony Moreno hit his 3rd homerun of the season and also had an rbi single. Fernando Castro recorded his 5th save in as many games, although it was a bit shaky as he had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs and big hitter Clayton Simmons at the plate, but was able to get Simmons to pop out to Yorvit Castro.

Arizona's runs came in the 2nd and 3rd inning, 2 coming from a homerun by Bennie Rivera in the 2nd. The bullpen was lights out again, only allowing 1 hit in the final 3 innings, with Fernando Castro getting his 4 save in as many games. Moreno knocked in 2 runs, while Cruz, Trunk and Rosario each finished with an rbi.

The 2nd start for Darryl French went the way he wanted it to. French got the win, going 7 innings while giving up 3 unearned runs on 108 pitches. The Stockings were down 3-0 in the 5th until Andres Cruz hit a rbi single and Tony Moreno smacked a 3-run homer down the left field line to bring the team ahead 4-3. Moreno later had a bloop single that scored Cruz. The bullpen shutout Arizona for the final 2 innings, Fernando Castro getting his 3rd save of the season with a perfect 9th.

The Red Stockings salvaged a win in the final game of the series off a 5 inning shutout performance by Elston D'Amico. Tony Moreno homered and drove in 2, and Donnie Trunk also had an rbi. The bullpen was very effective for the final 4 innings, the Seals' lone run coming off a single by Tyler Springer off Adam Shoeneweis. Fernando Castro notched his first save of the season and Santos Santana was cedited with the win, his first career with St. Louis.

The Red Stockings contained the Seals offense for 5 innings, but couldn't hold them off as they scored 8 runs in the later innings. Barry Enders no-hit the Seals for 5 innings, but couldn't keep the pace as he was chased from the 6th giving up 4 runs. The Stockings were similarly dominated as they saw a great debut by Rafael Castilla who shut them out for 7 innings until scoring 3 runs in the 8th. Trunk, Rosario and Alston each finished with an rbi.

The Red Stockings looked great early, scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning off Mark Daly. They couldn't hold the lead though, giving up 7 runs in the in the 5th inning on. Darryl French's first start for the Red Stockings is one that he will try to forget. He shut out the Seals for the first 4 innings, then it all fell apart in the 5th and 6th, as the Seals scored 4 runs to tie the game. Louie Rosario hit the Red Stockings' first homerun of the season, while knocking in 2 runs. Cruz, Trunk, and Castro each finished with an rbi.

Well it's finally here, a new day has dawned and it is Opening Day for the 1906 season. The Red Stockings will open the season against division rival San Fransisco Seals at Busch Stadium. The matchup of arms will be a faceoff of young phenoms, Max Pizzaro and Casey Whitehead. This should prove to be a great game as both teams are fierce competitors and like to perform at the highest level when facing off against each other.

Stockings Make a Splash in the Free Agent Pool

This week, the Red Stockings made two key free agent signings. They bolstered the rotation with the signing of veteran SP Darryl French. French has spent the last three seasons as a member of the powerhouse Detroit Wolverines, posting 31 wins and making the All-Star team twice. "I have been on one of the best teams around, so I know how to win. I hope that my experience can help out my new team in reaching their ultimate goal, something that I have yet to achieve myself, winning the World Series." French will most likely be the #2 starter behind Max Pizzaro, and has said that he looks forward to mentoring the younger pitchers on the staff. As for the other signing, the Stockings are very happy to announce the return of 1B Louie Rosario. Rosario was a mid-season pickup last year and performed at a high level, posting a .307 batting average with 13 homeruns and 42 rbis in 71 games. Red Stocking GM jway11 commented, "We really wanted Louie to re-sign with the ballclub, but he expressed his desire to test the free agent waters, so we respected his wishes and let him go." This proved unsuccessful as not many teams were relying on free agents to fill holes in their club, so Rosario decided to come back to St. Louis. "I was a little disappointed that there were no teams out there that went after my services, but I am glad that I am back in St. Louis. I made a lot of friends here and I think that after our narrowly missing the playoffs, I needed to come back and help to finish what we started," Rosario stated. With their strong desire to succeed, look to these two to have impact seasons.

Blockbuster Deal With Rebels

The St. Louis Red Stockings have just agreed upon a 9 player deal with the Montgomery Rebels. After several hours of negotiations late into Friday evening, the Stockings have agreed to send starting pitchers Howard Green and Steve Wolf, along with slick-fielding shortstop Spike Cardona and relief pitcher Bip Whitaker over to the Rebels for young phenom hurler Ernie Fielder, centerfielder Hideki Bang, starting pitcher Elston D'Amico, and outfield prospects Joseph Tabaka and Stan Holmes. Red Stocking GM jway11 was pleased to announce the new additions, "There were a few factors in a trade that we were looking for, we wanted to get younger in the hopes of providing some spark to our team, and to give us some more depth in the minors, both with which we feel we achieved." The GM further commented that Ernie Fielder was by far the main component in this deal, "Fielder was regarded very highly coming out of the draft last season, and we had our eyes on him for a while, so we are quite pleased that he will be joining us." As for the departing Stocking players, it will be hard to see them go. Green and Wolf were mid-season additions last year that contributed to the best season in team history. Cardona will be greatly missed, as he was a true fan favorite who played hard every day. The Red Stocking organization would like to thank the Montgomery Rebel management for their willingness to negotiate and for coming to terms on a fair trade that will benefit both sides.

It's a momentous day in St. Louis Red Stocking history as a core group of players signed long-term deals with the team. SP Max Pizzaro, CF Donnie Trunk, C Tony Moreno, SP Barry Enders, and RP Ross Billingsley have all accepted contracts to stay with the team for years to come. Pizzaro, Trunk and Moreno have been integral parts of the franchise since the inaugural season. Fans of all ages have reacted with an outcry of support, gathering outside the player's press conferences with colorful signs sporting Red Stocking paraphernalia. "I think it's important to keep us together. We're a tight knit group that has been here since the beginning, through the ups and downs, everything, and we know what we have to do to get this team to the top." That was a statement by Moreno during his press conference. Pizzaro and Enders both expressed their satisfaction that they will be keeping their most trusted backstop. Arbitration

Arbitration concluded today with the signing of four St. Louis players. By the end of the day, RF Alan Woodard, SS Micah Alston, LF Jon Hogan, and closer Fernando Castro all received contracts for the upcoming season. The true worth of Woodard and Alston cannot truly be determined, as they have provided great depth off the bench during their time with St. Louis. Hogan, who had a breakout year in the 1905 season, batting .282 with 37 homeruns and 103 rbis, is the most notable of the signings. Enter the sandman, Castro, who has provided that lights out mentality when coming into the 9th inning these past few seasons.

Trade Winds

The Red Stockings would like to announce a deal completed with the Washington D.C. Statesmen. The Stockings sent SP Dante Faulk and 2B Adrian Hemphill over to the Statesmen for SP Juan Perez and 3B Billy Coolbaugh. Perez, 25, should solidify the rotation as the #5 starter. The addition of Coolbaugh should provide some more depth in the minors.

Red Stockings Looking to Fresh Start

It was a disappointing ending for St. Louis in the 1905 season, coming within a win of making the playoffs. A new season is now upon us and the slate has been wiped clean. Spring training has begun for the 1906 season, all players having now reported. Red Stocking ace Max Pizzaro is confident on a playoff berth, "We have a lot of talented players on this team who are hungry to make the playoffs, and coming so close last season has only made us hungrier." Pizzaro, who arguably had the best season of his career going 17-9 with a team record 209 strikeouts, is rumored to be close to signing a 5 year deal worth $34 million. All-Star centerfielder Donnie Trunk is confident as well, "We had a very good stretch of games during the middle of last season, but we became too inconsistent and just couldn't finish strong." If the team can find some consistency throughout the season, the NL should watch out, this could be one dangerous foe to go up against. With above average hitting throughout the lineup and one of the best rotations in the league, there is no doubt that the Stockings could make their first playoff appearance in team history.
